Abstract:
Determining how a material responds to ballistic impact is important for designing improved penetration-resistant structures. Historically, the majority of research into the effects of ballistic impact has been for curvature geometries. A need therefore exists to systematically examine and understand its effect, if any, of flat panel on the ballistics response of both composite panels. For this dissertation, an experimental testing was employed to examine the effects of flat panel on the ballistics limit, the dynamic panel response, and the impact – induced damage in the target material is discussed. Flat panel were impacted by 7.62 mm diameter steel spheres for a range of impact velocities that bracketed the experimentally determined ballistic limit. Eight composite panel which selected to testing using up to 8 layers of fiberglass and using two core materials which are aluminium and nomex honeycomb with a dimension of 10 cm x 10 cm. As the material fabrication complete, the material is ready to vacuum bagging. After vacuum bagging done, the specimen ready for testing. In order to make testing, Ballistics Impacter Gun is used for this experiment.
