Abstract: The reliabilityof cooling production of an adsorption chiller driven by solar energy is depending heavily on the solar radiation received by solar thermal collector. For instance, solar radiation may be intermittent throughout the day due to cloud and rain. Furthermore, there is no solar radiation available at night.Thermal storage could solve this problem because it will store heat and continuously supply heat to the adsorption chiller when solar radiation is not available. This paper presents a mathematical model of thermal storage for adsorption chiller. The heat that will be stored in this storage has the temperature o o range between 60 and 90 C; the calculation presented in this paper was for the heat storage at 70 C.One important requirement of thermal storage for adsorption chiller is the high heat transfer rate between thermal storage material and thermal fluid. So, the design is mainly focused on the enhancement of heat transfer performance from the thermal storage material to thermal fluid and the reverse. A series of experiments will be carried out to enable the comparison between numerical prediction on the performance of thermal storage and the experimental result. This work is expected to contribute in the advancement of the system design of adsorption cooling system, particularly on the improvement of reliability in cooling production
