Abstract: | Radio Frequency (RF) energy harvesting is an energy conversion technique employed for converting energy from the electromagnetic (EM) field into the electrical domain. So, the excess RF energy can be harvested from the ambient surroundings to provide an alternative source of energy. This project concerns with the construction of multiband microstrip patch antenna for RF energy harvesting. This project focuses on the design of compact microstrip patch antenna using geometry optimization and slot cutting techniques. Performance of the patch antennas is first simulated using Keysight ADS/Momentum software, where the effects of parameter and slot variations are investigated. Then, the optimized patch antenna prototypes are fabricated and tested in an anechoic chamber as well as in their actual operating environment. The proposed microstrip patch antenna tuned at 2.4 GHz, 3.2 GHz and 4.5 – 4.7 GHz with return loss of 26 dB, 17 dB and 13 dB respectively. The microstrip patch antenna can support under the band of different wireless application as Bluetooth, WLAN/WiFi and WiMAX. The simulated and measured results were presented. |
