Abstract: Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) is a private technical university in Malaysia. Each 12 campuses specialized in a sector of their own. Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering and Technology (MIMET) is one of its campuses. Located in Lumut, MIMET specialized in maritime sector. Recently, there have been an issue in Malaysia where there is a shortage of manpower in maritime sector. This beg for a study to see the trend of young people going into maritime sector through furthering their study at maritime academy and institution. As one of the maritime institution in Malaysia, UniKL MIMET was selected as the subject for this research. This research was aimed to see the trends of maritime student enrolment into UniKL MIMET and to identify the factors that influenced their decision to enrol in UniKL MIMET. Data for the study of trends was acquired from the Department of Academic Services of UniKL MIMET while the data for the study to identify the factors was collected through the distribution of questionnaire to the student of UniKL MIMET. Both type of data was analysed by using IBM’s software named Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS).
