Abstract: Blood played major role in human anatomy. The blood cell known as erythrocyte (red blood corpuscles) (RBC)). There is a few diseases that affected the production of blood such as Sickel cell. Sickle cell is a disease that inherited by their parent who had an abnormal gene. Which it will affected the development of red blood cell. It causes blood blockage, brain damage and cause major pain to those who had this disease. Blood analysis is one of method that used to diagnose the sickle cell. There is two method that usually perform by pathologist such as manual and automatic method. Manual method analyzed the red blood cell under microscope and count the number of sickle cell manually which a little bit time consuming, while automatic method can detect the shape of sickle cell, however it can have classified the exact number of sickle cell. The aim of this paper work is to approach the sickle cell using image segmentation and count the number of sickle cell. In this research, the chosen algorithm is Sobel method and implement the algorithm in MATLAB. The design of automated system can identify the shape of normal red blood cell and sickle cell as well. This method will help pathologist to diagnose the patient disease in a short of time and in simplest way.
