Development of Fall Detection for Elderly with SMS Notification Alert

Abstract

When a person is fall, a strong impact may exposed on the older people which can cause some injuries. It can be much dangerous and far more serious as nobody would ever know about it because of their energy less to tell and to ask for people’s help. People who live independently also tend to die at the place where the incident happened because nobody is there thus help are really slow to arrive. The idea of this project is to create a hardware prototype of fall detector using 3-axis acceleration sensor which can detect standing up or walking, sitting, lying and falling. With the use of Bluetooth communication module, the arduino can communicate with the android application by using serial Bluetooth communication protocol. These features enable the controller to use SMS features and location sensor on smart phone in order to send emergency SMS when falling condition detected. The android application design will have capabilities to receive command and data from arduino either to send “falling detection” SMS or “emergency need help” SMS which require the user to press the emergency button.
