Title: Computer Programming Of Aircraft Weight And Balance
Authors: Ridhwan Abdul Razak
Issue Date: 9-Mar-2013
Abstract: This project was undertaken to apply the calculation of aircraft weight and balance into the computer programming. The software that will be used in this project is preferably to be Microsoft visual basic 2008 and if the time is not limited, this project will expand its application to the user of both popular Operating Systems (OS) namely Android and IOS. With the widely used of electronic gadget nowadays, this software is expected to be preferably used for the aircraft weight and balance inspectors since it is more effective and more time saving compare to the conventional or manual calculation which is currently being practiced by most of the aircraft weight and balance inspector in Malaysia. By considering the human factor effect, manual calculation could lead to a possible error if the inspector is experiencing in uncomfortable situation for instance they have multiple tasks in a certain time period, tiredness, overlooked in certain calculation because of repetitive tasks that would lead to decrease their arousal and other factors they could possibly face in their routine working time. In that case, this project is believed to overcome the problems and reducing the possibility of error in terms of calculation and improper procedure that will be conducted in order to calculate the basic weight of aircraft accurately after major maintenance completed. This software is more reliable since it can give a warning if errors are detected so that the inspector will be notified instantly. This will ensure that the basic weight of aircraft is clearly stated and compared directly to the allowable basic weight limit as in the respective maintenance manual. The other purpose of this project is to differentiate the calculation between the small aircraft (below 5700kg) and large aircraft (above 5700kg) in terms of procedures, calculation and equipments needed to conduct aircraft weight and balance. Apart from that, this project could give an exposure to the students and at the same time they can learn to calculate the aircraft basic weight in interesting way by the using of this software. Hopefully, the outcomes of this project will be beneficial to the aircraft weight and balance inspector in Malaysia and for the use of training aid to the students and lecturers in UniKL MIAT.
