Abstract: Smoke detectors/ alarms are important safety devices because of their obvious potential to save lives and property. There are two types of smoke detectors commonly available in many countries: i. One type uses the radiation from a small amount of radioactive material to detect the presence of smoke or heat sources. These "ion chamber smoke detectors" are the most popular, because they are inexpensive and are sensitive to a wider range of fire conditions than the other type. ii. The other type of detector does not contain radioactive material; it uses a photoelectric sensor to detect the change in light level caused by smoke. This type is more expensive to purchase and install, and is less effective. This type of research is concentrate on replacing the white light or light emitting diode (LED) that have been use this before in smoke emission detector by using laser diode and variable resistant semiconductor that give more accurate reading, less expensive and lightweight compare to the previous smoke emission detector. This laser diode and variable resistant semiconductor are new technology that have been propose in smoke emission detector to cut cost and give more accurate reading in order to make sure this type of smoke detector can give the best result to save anything when incident or accident occur.
