Abstract:
One of the biggest contributions to marine pollution is oil spill. While many are not aware, it
is a reoccurring event that happens every now and then. Malaysia, more specifically Pulau
Pinang is not an exception. The goal of this research is to look into the several factors, effects,
and preventative measures for oil spills for the marine environment, with a focus at Penang
Port, a company by the MMC Group located in Pulau Pinang. Oil spills are a major source of
marine pollution. in Malaysia, and Pulau Pinang happens to be a major spot for Oil spills. The
research uses IBM SPSS version 20 to analyse the data obtained from 30 respondents, most
likely members of Penang Port's Operations and Regulations Division. A mixed-methods
approach is used in the research project to gather both qualitative and quantitative data. The
quantitative data from the survey questions is combined with additional qualitative information
from an open-ended question provided in the questionnaire to offer a more thorough
understanding of the issue. The findings of this research will be a valuable resource for
maritime administrations, port operators, and other parties involved in the Penang Port area
and around Malaysia. The result from the questionnaire shows a strong and reliable data using
the Mean and Standard Deviation statistics. A mean at a value of 4.20 and a score of 0.887
standard deviation for the factors of oil spill. A mean at 4.30 and a score of 0.988 standard
deviation for effects of oil spill and mean at 4.17 and a score of 0.747 standard deviation for
preventive measures of oil spill.
