Abstract:
The use of renewable energy is expanding in our country. This is due to the
depletion of the ozone layer due to combustion which produces electrical
energy. Therefore, with suggestions or ideas that can help reduce the rate of
environmental pollution, this is also an initiative to help Malaysia towards a
zero-carbon country.
In addition, this project is carried out not only to generate electricity that does
not pollute the environment, but it also produces a device that can help in
maintaining the safety of people who visit the beach. The design of vertical
axis wind turbine is not adopted for commercial power. The main objectives of
this project are to build a mini vertical axis wind turbine which can generate
maximum load power of 15W and to test the 12V DC generator can be fully
charge 4.8V rechargeable battery. This project can detect wind speeds at
dangerous levels of 40 kilometers per hour. This project uses an alarm system
such as buzzer and red LED to warn visitors who are in the area around the
beach. To detect wind speed, this project produces a vertical axis wind turbine
design that requires only a small amount of wind speed. Arduino uno as the
main controller in this project and it requires coding expertise to control the
action of the microcontroller. This project also makes an analysis of the design
of wind turbines and performance comparison between actual situation and
simulation. The simulation are using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
software known as Flow-3D. The characteristics obtained from this experiment
provide useful information for the design and performance of wind turbine.
