Titanic are well known cruise ship that have monohull design. When strong
winds were coming out from the dock, the bow thrusters that pushed the ship sideways
were not effective enough to move the ship against the wind to the dock. Therefore,
bulbous bow design is introducing to solve this problem. In this experiment the goal
is to get the data of effect of the resistance by using different type of bulbous bow on
cruise ship and identify the most effectiveness type of the bulbous bow on the cruise
ship by using Maxsurf Software. As the result, Titanic with Delta bulbous bow has
larger GM value than others which is 1.111m and heeling angle of 42.7 deg means that
with higher GM value give a better stability result, in this case Titanic with Delta
bulbous bow are more stable rather than others. Other data shown Titanic with Oval
bulbous bow better fuel effectiveness rather than other because with the value of power
which is 13841.44 kW at 20 knots but on the Titanic is 16115.537 kW at the same
speed which is 20 knots. Thus Titanic with Oval bulbous bow could reduce the power
to 14.11% at the same speed from the Titanic original design and as mention in the
literature review in chapter 2 the function of the bulbous bow has 12 to 15% better fuel
efficiency comparable vessels with them. Which added up to when high speed with
low value of power it will save more fuel rather than high speed with high value of
power. With by means, Titanic with Oval bulbous bow are much better in fuel
efficiency rather than other design. To conclude that Titanic with Delta bulbous bow
are the best design to be sail in calm and rough water. It is recalled that with bulbous
bow will reduce the pitching motion rather without them. |
