PREVENTION OF OIL SPILL FROM SHIP COLLISIONs AT PORT OF PASIR GUDANG, JOHOR

Abstract

Oil spill accidents happen and due to that, many parties are affected. Marine environment is affected as well because of the oil contamination. There are cases where the factors that contribute to oil spill are human and technical error. Due to the research, technical error is the cause of the ship collision happened. In order to prevent such cases to be happened in the future, there are several precaution steps to prevent or reduce the percentage of oil spill. There are two objectives in the research and two research questions which answer the research objectives. For research objectives, the researcher want to identify the efficient precaution steps to prevent the oil spill from ship collisions and the second one is to determine the level of awareness on liabilities and compensation among public since some of the parties are not aware in regards to this matter. While for the research questions, have been mentioning about what are the precaution steps to prevent oil spill from ship collisions and the next one is the level awareness on liabilities and compensation among public. Basically, both research objectives are achieved by conducting the survey and compute to SPSS in order to get the result from data analysis. There are three precaution steps which can be highlighted; maintenance, double hull and technology. For awareness, there are several recommendations to enhance the level of awareness among public even though the data analysis showed the respondents are aware on liabilities and compensation matter.
