Abstract:
The Lumut Maritime Terminal (LMT) is a port located at the Perak and the
execution of the privatization agreement with the state government of Perak in
February 1993. The port operation started on 24 July 1995 and is owned by
Perak Corp Bhd and Tenaga Nasional Bhd. The continuous improvement and
upgrading and its facilities have been extended. The Lumut Maritime Terminal
extended their facilities and adding the Lekir Bulk Terminal and Lumut Port
Industrial Park. With the addition of the Lumut Port Industrial Park (LPIP) that
has total area of 1000 acres suitable for business development. The various
business sector such as mineral processing activities, metal work and
fabrication, ship building, manufacturing and biodiesel activities, such kind of
business activities ensure the continuous sustenance of the port. Even though
all this business creates a huge job opportunity but for who it is benefited. This
research is aimed to identify the factor influencing the employer to hire the
foreign worker compare to the local worker. Data were taken using a
questionnaire that were distributed at the Lumut port area. Total of 99
respondent are collected and recorded in the survey. The questionnaire is
being divide into three parts which are the employee benefits for the local and
foreign worker, the working condition and the factor influencing the
employment of the foreign worker. Data is analyzed using Statistical Package
for the Social Science (SPSS) to know the descriptive analysis in each part of
the questionnaire. The result show that there is a significant difference in the
working condition and the employee benefits received between the foreign and
local worker. The factor that influencing the employment of the foreign worker
has been identified in this research.
