dc.description.abstract The rise in fuel prices has a negative impact on shipping industries. One of the best ways to reduce and optimize fuel consumption is by installing the Energy Saving Devices (ESD). This research only focusses on the study of Pre-swirl stator saving devices for vessels. Thus, this investigation aimed to quantify the improvement and powering performance using the ESD at Zone I which is before the propeller as a Preswirl stator (PSS). It is possible to reduce the rotational losses incurred by the propeller by using PSS. The Japan Bulk Carrier (JBC) was selected as the test case for the Final Year Project research study. Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) was used to simulate and analyze the results of the parameter. Series of the case study results were compared to identify the most efficient stator configuration. A parametric space was designed to vary systematically the number of blades, the blade twist and the blade length. The simulated results were compared with available experimental data which can be found in NMRI (2015). The test performance interested values in this study were delivered power, propulsive coefficient, hull efficiency, total resistance and total resistance coefficient. Based on case study no. 17, where the delivered power at 51.50 W, was the lowest among from all the case studies. As a conclusion, the case study no. 17 which tested with 2 blades with blade lengths of 0.7D and blade twist of 10⁰ was selected as the most appropriate to run in full scale. The delivered power that fitted with PSS does not reduce compared to the case without PSS. The results showed 32% of delivered power was increased from the JBC hull without any PSS to the JBC hull with PSS devices. en_US
