The main purpose of this project is to determine the hydrodynamic
parameters such resistance, sinkage, trim and wake of the product tanker
using Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) modelling software, SHIPFLOW.
Not only that, the effectiveness of CFD in determining resistance is also the
main aim of this project. The 100m product tanker was simulated in deep
water condition at different speed, ranging from 8 to 12 knots and the
viscous, wave and total resistance were calculated. Besides that, the model
scale was also simulated to obtain the hydrodynamic parameters in
corresponding speed respectively. For experimental values, the data for
model scale was taken from the towing tank experiment which was
conducted by UTM and in UTM Towing Tank facility. Finally, the comparison
of CFD values and experiment values was analysed. Experimental
investigation appears to provide agreement with computed values and
showing that the CFD methods may adequately deal with the problem of
wave interference produced by the tanker hull. However, there were some
discrepancy in total resistance between CFD and experiment. |
