Abstract:
Peel test is performed between two substrates that are bonded together with
an adhesive. The substrates may be both flexible or one may be rigid while
the other one may be flexible. The adhesive will generally take the form of a
thin layer between the two substrate. For an example, the adhesive is located
on the underside of a piece of tape that had been placed against aluminum
plate. Peel tester or peel test machine are universal test machines that are
specially configured to determine the adhesive peel strength or the strength
of the adhesive bond between two materials. Students conducted this final
year project to design and fabricate a suitable peel test jig for UniKL MIMET
using the Insron Universal Tensile Machine (UTM) at the laboratory. New
peel test machine is highly in cost so students came out with an idea to
design and fabricate a low cost peel test jig so that Unikl MIMET can save
much more expenses and use the peel test jig for learning purposes. Besides
that, UniKL MIMET can use the peel test jig on the Instron UTM to conduct
peel test experiment. Upon the completion of the fabrication of peel test jig,
students demonstrate and test the peel test jig on the Instron UTM and it is fit
and work very well on the Instron UTM. All the objectives are achieved and
the results are excellent for this project.
