Abstract: The purpose of the project is to develop an android based home automation using raspberry pi. This project focuses on the smart home electrical appliances such as lights and fans so that they can be controlled from a far or close distance by using Android. Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and mobile communication 3G networks were deployed in the smart home system. Status of the fan or light whether it is off or on are collected by the Raspberry Pi as the processor. The access point will transmit data using WLAN. Then, the data is accessed using smart phone operating in Android environment. In recent years, the home environment has been a rapid introduction of network enable digital technology. This technology offers new and exciting opportunities to increase the connectivity of devices within the home for the purpose of smart home controller. Mobile devices are ideal in providing a user interface a smart home controller, due to their portability and their wide range of capabilities. They can communicate with a smart home controller network through an internet gateway, but cannot directly communicate with devices in the network, a these devices usually implement low power communication protocols, such as Wi-Fi. In this project, aims a t controlling home appliances via Android device using Wi-Fi as communication protocol and Raspberry Pi as a server system. These projects create a user friendly interface for the Android device that allows a user to communicate with the Raspberry Pi server. The server communicates with the corresponding relay. By this I offer a scalable and cost effective Home Automation System.
