Authors: Tengku Puteri Zulaikha Binti Tengku Badrudin
Issue Date: 17-Dec-2014
Abstract: Nowadays the issue on environment preservation and sustainability has lead into a new finding on the new materials that had been in environment for long. A research work had been carried out at Universiti Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (MIAT) regarding the use of kekabu into the production of bricks by using composite as a medium known as Kekabu Composite Brick. The objective of this research is to study the engineering properties of kekabu composite brick. Experiments have been conducted by mixing kekabu with epoxy resin. The method used to find the kekabu resin ratio was by trial and error. Then, the mixes are being left to cure by air at 3 days. Next, the brick that has been formed and shaped were tested for buoyancy and compressive strength. Later the good strength development was selected. Other test conducted on the kekabu composite brick are the water absorption and 3-points bending test. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that the research has achieved its objectives. This shows that kekabu composite bricks can replace the existing bricks in term of strength.
