metadata.fyp.dc.description.abstract: The new design of spring compressor is utilized to compress a helical coil spring of a coil-over shock absorber as well as MacPherson strut suspension assembly. A spring compressor of the type having a wide base provide stability while being operated. It has a vertical post that is adjustable in order to give comfort and enable the user to maintain their body posture while operating the spring compressor thus, avoiding awkward postures and positions as well as decrease fatigue and discomfort that can interfere with work. The new design does not require user to hold the shock absorber nor the spring compressor while operating the spring compressor, which provide safety to the user. The spring compressor has two plates where the shock absorber will be placed and hold. These two plates are pressure plate and static plate. Static plate is used to provide opposite force to enable the compression of a shock absorber. Pressure plate is used in compression process whereby it will move downwards to compress the shock absorber and upwards to release the compression with the help of mechanical system. The bevel gear is used to transmit power between the rotating handle and power screw at the angle of 90°. The power screw is use to transfer motion or power, which in this case to move pressure plate upwards and downwards. Besides that, this new design does not require any additional hand tools to compress the shock absorber. The shock absorber can be compress by rotating the handle clockwise and rotating the handle counter-clockwise to release compression.
