Abstract: | This study investigates the causes and impacts of traffic congestion at the Penang Bridge, Malaysia. 100 structured questionnaires were distributed randomly among Facebook users that like the Penang Bridge page in the Facebook. The questionnaires formed the basis of the study and were analyzed by the descriptive data using Mean. The result from the study showed the causes of traffic congestion as poor driving habit, accident occur on the bridge, exceeded number of vehicle, inadequate road capacity and poor design junction/bridge. Effects of traffic congestion from the study are waste of time, stress, air and noise pollution, delay of movement and fuel waste. To reduce these negative effects, the state government must promote public transportation and create an awareness among users that the effect of traffic congestion can highly impact the quality of life of the users. |
