Abstract: This project involves the study of intrusion detection system (IDS) and distributed intrusion detection system (DIDS) in a wireless networks. IDS work by observing a computer system for any sign of intrusion through anomalous event or misuse signature. However DIDS consists of multiple IDS that cover a large network. The research field of this project is based on networking security in MANET. In general, wireless networking environment is easier to gain intrusion compare to wired network environment. This is because attacker can simply capture wireless signal on the air. In this project we need to learn how to use the Networking Simulator 2 (NS-2), so that we can simulate the required environment. Besides study on the DIDS, the project needs to simulate a DIDS environment and analyze the output. The purpose of this project is to understand the security system in a wireless network environment.
