The aim of this research is to improve a product design by using Design for X (DFX) Methodology which potentially reduced human error. The author closely highlights the three main objectives for this research. First is to understand the elements of product design. Second, to understand the elements of Human Factor in aircraft maintenance activities and the last objectives is to identify and develop the potential DFX Methodology which potentially reducing human error. Based on the objectives, the author has come out with a three steps of the research methodology. At the first, the author has identified and selects a DFX. The author has chooses Upper Recirculation Filters and Fans from aircraft type Boeing 777 as a product to be used for the research in order to achieve the objectives that already mentioned early. For the second step, the author has analyzed the DFX. This step allows the author to review the filter design and trying to innovate as well as ensuring that all objectives are achieved. Lastly, the author has developed a methodology according to the Military Handbook 472 and Design Effectiveness Formula as a guideline. The result of this research has success to achieved about 90% of time can be reduced compared from the actual time taken. Based on the research activity, the author has find out that although Military Handbook 472 was published since 24 May 1966, the techniques are still valid. In terms of Design Effectiveness, the formula is given very proven and effectives which by reducing the number of parts, the maintenance times also can be reduced and automatically will reduced the human error.
