Title: THE COMPARISON BETWEEN THREADED AND NON-THREADED FASTENER ON CARBON STEEL
Authors: SHAHROL JAMALUDDIN
Issue Date: 14-May-2014
Abstract: This dissertation is mainly about the comparison between threaded and nonthreaded mechanical fastener on carbon steel on bridge structure. Along with this dissertation, the author have studied on the behaviour of both threaded and non-threaded mechanical fastener joint in term of their strength and bridge structure life by conducting experimental work and static analysis that will analyse structural joint that tends to break or fracture. In order to achieve the objective, the author focused on behaviour of hot rivet joint for nonthreaded fastener and bolted joint for threaded fastener. The author already get the comparison shear stress forces deformation by fabricating both mechanical joint and testing it using material testing machine. In this thesis, there force has been determined which is Shear force. The force have three sample of testing part which are three for hot rivet joint and three for bolted joint. The type of joint being used is lap joint for all sample part. After all the testing has been carried out, the author have analyse on the experimental results and identify which fastener joint has a longer life. From this analysis, the author noted that threaded fastener which is the used of bolted is stronger than hot rivet joint.
