Abstract: An analysis was conducted to study the deformation behaviour of the car wheel rim when subjected to different static loading. This design analysis has been performed using CATIA and Abaqus. Two types of car wheel rim commonly used in Malaysia, Steel wheel rim and Alloy wheel rim have been modelled using CATIA according to the standard specification. Then, Abaqus analyses the rim models and supports the simulation of static loading. Analysis results are presented in terms of maximum stress and displacement deformed by the car wheel rims. It have been found that the Steel wheel rim deformed more and produced higher stress than Alloy wheel rim. This concludes that the Steel wheel rim absorbs more energy than Alloy wheel rim which is good because less energy from the impact will go to the passenger compartment of the vehicle. This suggests that steel wheel rim is safer than alloy wheel rim.
