dc.description.abstractThis project is focuses on studying the motorcycle brake performance test in term of braking distance, stopping time, brake efficiency and kinetic energy using 3 combination of brake (front drum + rear drum, front disc + rear drum, front disc + rear disc). Performance evaluated with application of front brake, rear brake, and both brakes together on Honda EX5 motorcycle. The braking distance data of the test is check base on Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) and European Economic Standard (EEC). The disc brake is 30.29% more efficiency than drum brake in term of braking distance and 29.61% more efficiency than drum brake in term of stopping time. Disc brakes are better initially because there is more surface area on the rotor for the disc pads to hold. Then, all the judgment of the braking distance is acceptable depend to Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) and European Economic Standard (EEC). Drum brakes are not designed for heavy braking over long distances as heat builds up inside the drum causing it to lose its effectiveness but the moving parts in the disc brakes receive open air so they are cooled easily. Considering that drum brakes are cheaper to make and many small and economical vehicles don't have the need for a vast amount of braking force, the drum brake will the suitable for the rear wheels of those vehicles.en_US
