Title: The Investigation Of Mixing Additive With Palm Oil As Reciprocating Engine Bio-Lubricant
Authors: Mohd Jawari Bin Samingan
Issue Date: 26-Jan-2003
Abstract: The purpose of this research is to introduce the usage of bio lubricant as lubricating oil for reciprocating engine. This study showed the palm oil chemical properties when it mixed with an additive. Environmental concern has been the main issue that push the industry to select more biodegradable oil. Since vegetable oil is highly biodegradable than any other oils, it become a good candidate for lubricant manufacturer to reconsider the vegetable oils as base stock. The research work is on the possibility of chemical properties improvement made by having palm oil mix with an additive. The properties which have been evaluated include viscosity, viscosity index, density and colour. The chemical properties test was carried out as accordance with ASTM standard for lubricating oils. The effect on engine performance such as torque and power produce when using this mixed palm oil will also be determined. This is to known whether the usage of this oil as lubricant may enhance the reciprocating engine or not.
