This research specifically examined the level of knowledge and awareness on the importance of STCW among marine engineering students from three top marine institutes in Malaysia. Two research questions were formulated and answered, using the survey design. The correspondents were drawn using from the total population from the three institutes. A well-validated and reliable instrument consisting of 5 demographic items and a total of 20 multiple choice related to the research objective was administered on 263 respondents. There is two methods used by the researcher which are the chisquare test and mean test. Both of this test results in the statistical analysis to meet the objectives stated. Based on data analysis, the researcher found out that the students are well aware about STCW, but there are still slightly misunderstanding on several issues that need to be discussed so that it will not lead to bigger problems in the future. It is recommended that the level of knowledge and awareness on the importance of STCW among marine engineering students can be improved in the future. Also, IMO should ensure that STCW awareness is enshrined in relevant curricular of Maritime Education and Training.
