Title: Development of Wheelchair Gesture Control
Authors: MUHAMMAD NUR IKHWAN BIN RAMLI, Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Hons.) in Electrical
Issue Date: 4-Jul-2019
Abstract: The needs of disabled individuals in mobility can be satisfied through wheelchair. But some of them may face a hard time to manoeuvre the wheelchair using their arms. This study will cover the development of wheelchair gesture control and describe a wheelchair for individual with physical disability. The wheelchair can be easily manoeuvred and change directions according to the gestures made by the user. The aim of this project is to develop an enhanced system of a wheelchair in recognition of gestures. To achieve this aim, research has been made throughout the process of the project to understand the system of accelerometer to improvise and innovate the existing manual wheelchair. The main “brain” of this project is Arduino Uno ATMega328. This type of Arduino is needed because this Arduino can be integrated into wearable project. Besides that, an accelerometer is one of the requirements to build this project as accelerometer can recognize the movement in 6-axis direction; positive x-axis, positive y-axis, positive z-axis, negative x-axis, negative y-axis and negative z-axis. Furthermore, this project will require RF module for transmitting and receiving the signal.
