Title: Development Of A Centralized Secure Personal Storage System Using Fingerprint Authentication Technique For Use In The Banking Industry
Authors: Izzuddin bin Muhammed Iqbal
Issue Date: 22-May-2013
Abstract: Fingerprint and other biometric authentication techniques have been established as some of the most secure and reliable form of personal identification method available today. Current trend of personal storage locker security in banks lacks the ease of access and the security that can be achieved by utilizing the full potential of fingerprint identification. A system is developed to recognize fingerprints and to compare the fingerprint with existing patterns kept in a centralized database. Using a simple and tested, minutia extraction technique, the information is extracted from fingerprint as will be converted into a binary variant string. Each pattern will form a different combination within the 602 bit binary variant to classify each of the fingerprints, making it as unique as it is secure. The first step is for the user to register their fingerprint. Once this is done, the user will be associated with a specific user ID as well as a box. To unlock, the unlock selection is selected and when a match is found between the input fingerprint data and the database, the system will unlock a specific box associated with the registered fingerprint and at the same time, remove that fingerprint data from the database; allowing other users to make use of the vacated locker box. A simple circuit is developed to conduct a small-scale “proof-of-concept” test to demonstrate the workings of the system using three boxes. Keywords-component: biometric, centralized database, fingerprint, locker system, secure storage.
