Abstract: In modern era, the Power Electronics field and power conversion system has appear as a crucial technology in the industrial automation. In the industrial process, a power converter is an electrical circuit that alters the electric energy from one specific form into the desired form for the specific load. The point of this work is to depict the comparison with analyzation between the practices of Single Phase Matrix Converter (SPMC) versus a conventional Cyclo-converter as an AC to AC frequency converter impose to passive load arrangement. The implementation of the SPMC and the Cyclo-converter had been designed and realized by synthesizing the output utilizing the well-known Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) technique with IGBTs as power switching unit for the SPMC, while for Cyclo-converter a MOSFET were used as power switching device. To demonstrate the validity of results, simulations were finished by implies of the SimPowerSystem in Simscape toolbox within the MATLAB/ SIMULINK software package. The final result indicate that both topologies able to perform an AC to AC frequency converter operation. The Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) percentage for the SPMC topology is smaller than the conventional Cyclo-converter topology as shown by the MATLAB Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis.
