Abstract: This thesis investigates the effect of stress distribution on longitudinal framing in cargo ship hull section. The cargo ship is the ship that carries goods, material and many more from one port to another. During the voyage, the ship's structure will encounter various magnitude of different types of loads. One of them comes from the containers itself. The finite element analysis approach is used to analyze the strength of the longitudinal frame of the ship. The main objective of the research is to develop the longitudinal framing of hull section model based on the classification rules. Then, analyze the stress distribution of the framing system by using FEA approach. The result of the analysis will be compared with actual result and the discussion have been made to come out the recommendation that needs to be considered to ensure the strength of the cargo ship. From the analysis, the stress distribution longitudinal frame has exceeded the actual stress result. Therefore, the cargo ship needs to stiffen the framing system by increasing their thickness or install more structures that can help the strength of the hull such as transverse framing system.
