Title: DESIGN ANALYSIS OF ACTIVE PARTIAL CAVITY SLOTS (APCS) ON AIRBOAT
Authors: MOHD ADIB AMANI BIN KUSMIN
Issue Date: 25-Oct-2018
Abstract: Active Partial Cavity Slot (APCS) is a slot that trap air under the bottom of the hull. The purpose of this research is to analyse an airboat installed with APCS. The analysis includes determining the relationship of APCS geometry and hull bottom shape towards the trim change and air pressure needed to change the draught of the hull. Trim angle affecting the stability of an airboat. Hence, the presence of APCS will give appropriate lift force to the hull, so that trim angle can be reduced. For the purpose of this research, various shape and size of APCS and two box shaped hull with flat bottom and V-shape bottom are constructed. Then the hull was installed with the APCS at the bottom of the hull. The analysis is done with varying the APCS installed in the hull in order to obtain the satisfying result. The best design will be chosen based on the APCS that have lowest pressure to change highest trim angle. The results are used to assess the performance of the APCS system efficiently.
