Abstract: Sickle cell anemia is an abnormal red blood cell and also knows as an abnormal haemoglobin. Haemoglobin is function to pass oxygen all over the body through blood vessel. As we know, normal red blood cell shape is like a disc and it will move freely and flexible in blood vessel. But, for abnormal red blood cell shape is like a crescent or sickle and it make flow of the blood in blood vessel will stuck and due to this, it will cause patient pain. In addition, this disease will cause the patients exposed to dehydration, infection, or low oxygen supply. This research project discuss about Sobel method, which is used to identify the shape of blood samples. The main advantage of using Sobel method is finding the regional minima on real images and it is based on region processing. Besides that, this project will detect the number of sickle cell anemia and red blood cell by using MATLAB processing.
