Title: The Study And Experiment Of Conventional Drilling On Composite Reinforced Fibers
Authors: Muhammad Fadhlan Hilfi Bin Nadzri
Issue Date: 7-Mar-2013
Abstract: Composite have been steady replacing metals as choice of engineering material and therefore aerospace industry have look into the use at their material for the construction of aircraft structural members. Drilling is the most common operation performed on some composite, but the defects occur has driven researcher to look into experiments in order to extensively understanding the machining techniques that influence the drilling process. The purpose of this project is to look into the procedure of drilling for composite material. Since composite material have been used widely on aircraft structure such as on A320, it is important to do gather the information of how composite material itself. The issue of drilling composite have become a primary research nowadays became of the defect occur on the material itself. This research will look into this issue. In this project, the materials used are fiberglass. The sample that been produce are 3 sample of fiberglass. The fiberglass sample is produced by following the orientation and plies as per reference of wheel spats main section of the Eagle 150B aircraft the number of the layout by using hand lay out process. The process of drilling is done to both samples by looking into the drilling RPM and feed rate. Then, all of the 3 samples inspected under video measuring system. The result of the comparison between the two and the conclusion is made base on the result and discussion.
