Title: Fundamental Research On Lubrication System By Using Reynold’s Equation
Authors: Eviandayani Bt Gatot
Issue Date: 11-Sep-2015
Abstract: Tribological parameters such as friction, lubrication and wear influence strongly the engine component's life. Thus, the purpose of this research is to study the lubrication system within an internal combustion engine, by using mathematical method and computer program that represent the pressure and film thickness of lubricant. The scope of this study is to focus on piston assembly and hydrodynamic regime of lubrication where a modified Reynold's equation is developed according to the system which is reciprocating motion to determine the pressure and film thickness of lubricant. From the equation, graphs is then developed by using C programming language to study the differences of pressure distribution affected by four main criteria's in lubrication system which are contact geometry, lubrication properties, loading positioning and kinematic viscosity. The graphs are then analyzed to study the relationship between pressure and those four criteria's of lubrication system.
