Title: STUDY OF MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF D2 STEEL ON CORROIOSN ENVIRONMENT
Authors: MOHD HAFIZUDDIN BIN ABDULLAH
Issue Date: 10-Sep-2015
Abstract: An investigation was carried out to study the mechanical properties of D2 tool steel when the material exposed to corrosion environment up to 3 weeks. This study investigated the hardness strength and impact strength of D2 steel plate with dimension of 75mm x 75mm x17mm for hardness testing and 55m x 10mm x 10mm for impact testing. Laboratory test were carried out to determine the mechanical properties of D2 steel. Four plates with 75mm x 75mm x17mm were tested using Brinell hardness testing, four other plate with dimension of 55mm x 10mm x 10mm of D2 steel were tested using impact testing. The data obtained from Brinell Testing shows that the hardness of D2 steel decrease due to corrosion environment which the hardness dropped about 32% from 143 BHN to 97 BHN. The data obtained from Charpy Impact Testing shows that the impact strength of D2 steel decrease due to corrosion environment which the impact strength dropped about 67% from 37.74 J/m² to 12.34 J/m².
