Smart lock and smart alarm: alert and protect your lost USB flash drive

Abstract

Due to the lack of awareness and negligence from user, personal data is usually not well-protected and easily being duplicated or stolen by unauthorized party. Therefore, in order to prevent confidential data from being exposed, a study is proposed to implement password authentication features, namely Smart Lock into USB flash drive. Apart from this, this study also found that the current available portable locker tools for USB flash drive do not notify user if the USB flash drive is accidentally misplaced or lost. Hence, this study proposes an alarm feature, namely Smart Alarm is developed to notify user whenever they accidentally left their USB flash drive at their workstation. A comparison of several existing tools are being reviewed and tested, the proposed system is able to outperform in terms of privacy and security.
