| Abstract: | A barge is typically a flat-bottomed vessel used for offshore activities as a bulk transporter, equipment supplies carrier, crane platform, and foundation for support housing. The barge considered in this paper is a deck cargo barge with an overall length of 30.48 meters, 9.144 meters beam and 1.83 meters in depth. This project’s goal is to identify the similarities and differences of structural design requirement of cargo barge for the hull and structural members based on various classifications societies which are Bureau Veritas (BV), Korean Register (KR) and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). The process has continuously to focus on meeting structural requirements in situations involving ship structures by complying the standard set by classification societies. The classification rules were primarily involved in the assessing calculations. To cross-check and validate the value acquired between the two, scantling computational development was carried out and then followed by manual calculation. Afterward, implementing the data already acquired, concept comparison using the classification criteria and 3D modelling creation were carried out. This is necessary because the quality of the vessels is limited by the standards that are currently in place. Hence a set of concept comparison which are required minimum, section modulus scantling, total pressure, corrosion addition, structural weight and rule simplicity were analysed. In all the analysis it was deduced that the three classification rules requirement may differ in values but has the capacity to withstand all forms of stress and keep the vessel in a safe condition. |
