| Abstract: | This comprehensive study focuses on the maintenance and refurbishment of a sailing boat's hull, specifically targeting the amidship to port beam section, with the primary objective of optimizing sailing boat performance through advanced hull cleaning techniques. The performance of a sailing boat is intricately linked to the condition of its hull, making it crucial to maintain and refurbish this key component to ensure efficient and smooth sailing. The research explores traditional and contemporary hull cleaning methods and their impact on boat performance, with an emphasis on the amidship to port beam section. It examines the effects of fouling, corrosion, and other forms of hull degradation on the boat's hydrodynamics and resistance, as well as the subsequent consequences for speed, stability, and fuel efficiency to address these challenges, the study delves into innovative cleaning techniques, including advanced hull coatings, biofouling prevention strategies, and state-of-the-art cleaning equipment. The study combines theoretical analysis and practical experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of these methods, with a focus on the port beam area. The findings of this research provide valuable insights into the optimization of sailing boat performance through hull cleaning and refurbishment, especially in the amidship to port beam section. By comprehensively assessing the benefits of modern cleaning technologies, this study offers sailors, boat owners, and marine professionals a roadmap to enhance their vessels' performance while ensuring sustainability and environmental responsibility. In conclusion, this research contributes to the advancement of sailing boat maintenance and refurbishment practices, shedding light on how a well-maintained hull, particularly in the amidship to port beam region, can significantly improve the overall performance and efficiency of sailing boats, ultimately enhancing the sailing experience. |
