Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is a welding process that joining two or more part into one piece and an arc between the continuous electrode. In Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process, voltage selection has a main factor for defect occur. Voltage is very important and therefore any changes in voltage or current affect the arc transfer characteristics and resultant weld quality. The effects of different voltage on welding defect in low carbon steel that having the 10mm thickness of base metal by using the gas metal arc welding are investigated. The different voltage was chosen in this study as 18V, 20V, and 24V and every voltages have four different specimen. The defect were test for each specimen after the welding process trough non destructive testing (NDT) by using Visual Inspection (VT) and Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) and the effect of it it was studied. The findings also identified the 20V has a great potential to produce stronger weldment compared to the others, this affects the mode of transfer, shape of the arc, weld penetration and temperature distribution within the arc.en_US
