dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT Human activities generate wastes that are often disposed when they become worthless. Increasing population and unmanageable to discard the waste are the factors influence directly the solid waste generation in Desasiswa/i Al-Razi. The purposes of this study were to evaluate the composition, physical and chemical characteristic of the generated solid waste in Desasiswa/i Al-Razi and to suggest ways to engage and involve students to reduce the solid waste problem in UniKL Micet. The study focused on the estimation of solid waste generation and composition for three months which in June 2012, July 2012 and September 2012. The overall of solid waste generation, September indicated the highest generation which was 4916.23kg/month of solid waste due to the increasing of population which in September is month of student learning and the climate change. Waste generation rates works out approximately to be 0.21 Kg per capita per day of 200 persons in June while the month of July is approximately 0.29 Kg per capita per day of 300 persons in Desasiswa/i Al-Razi. The estimation generation for each student for month of September 2012 is approximately to be 0.22 Kg per capita per day for month of 750 persons in Desasiswa/i Al-Razi. September 2012 represent high percentage in physical (moisture content, physical size and density) and chemical characteristic (proximate and ultimate analysis) of solid waste generation, but indicated the lowest percentage in heating value compare to other months. This study has some recommendations for improvement and to reduce the amount of disposed waste in Desasiswa/i Al-Razi such as organize some programs and activities about importance of solid waste, increase the number of recycle bins and the size of the rubbish bins, build small incinerator, gasifier or biogas reactor, enforce the university policy that contribute in reduce non-recyclable items and the students should educate themselves to have the habit of recycle the solid waste. | en_US |
