Title: Study On Braking Perfomance Based On Brake Pad Products For The Passenger Car
Authors: Muhammad Khairuddin Bin Zainal
Issue Date: 14-Sep-2015
Abstract: Braking performance depends on the quality of the brake pads. After-market shop sells various types of brake pad’s product, including many premium brake pads brand available at these outlets. Premium brake pads are highly recommended to be used because of its superior quality and a high level of braking performance. Hence the objective of this study is to determine the value level of these premium brake pads in daily usage. In conjunction to these three types of brake pads were selected using two experimentals approach based on normal basic driving scenarios, namely brake pad weight loss test and stopping distance test. In brake pad weight loss test, Semi-Metallic brake pad has the lowest mass loss that is 50g, followed by Ceramic brake pad, 60g and Non Asbestos Organic brake pad, 75g. Meanwhile for stopping distance test, Semi-Metallic brake pad has the shortest stopping distance at 117.72N pedal force on the other hand Non-Asbestos Organic brake pad has the shortest stopping distance at 156.96N pedal force. The data from the experiment will be recorded and interpreted and later objected to a detailed analysis. The results of this study will enable car users and drivers of passenger vehicles to choose the most suitable brake pads in order to obtain the optimum level of braking performance in their driving activity.
