Abstract: Many Malaysian Higher Education Institutes have been offering Chinese language courses for more than 50 years nevertheless this has often been ignored in the education field. Most previous studies on Chinese language courses in Malaysia tend to explore to Chinese language courses offered by public universities, however private universities are rarely involved in those discussions. therefore, this paper makes an effort to analyze the teaching of two private universities, Universiti Kuala Lumpur and Multimedia University. This paper attempts to discuss the current situation of development of Chinese language teaching in Malaysian Private Universities and the existing problems. The paper describes its current curriculum design, teaching and learning hour's strength, teacher strength and points out the problems faced as well as suggested strategy for improvement in the two private universities involved. This paper also aims to reflect the situations of other private universities in the future to improve the problems of Chinese language teaching and learning.
