dc.description.abstract Wayang Kulit or shadow puppets can be defined as the most ancient form of traditional theatre to exist. Today, 3-dimensional computer animation (3D) or computer-generated imagery (CGI) has presented the world of entertainment with new animation possibilities. The late Hamzah Awang Amat, more famously known as Pak Hamzah, was one of the most renowned Tok Dalang (Master Puppeteer) of Wayang Kulit Siam or Kelantan in Malaysia. Meanwhile, John Lasseter is an internationally recognized animator with Pixar Animation Studios and Disney Studios who has directed shorts and feature length animated films. As the longevity of shadow play is now being threatened, steps need to be taken to preserve this heritage from dying through modern technology, particularly 3D computer animation. For this purpose, this research will focus on the visual aesthetics of both Pak Hamzah and Lasseter’s skills, creativity and contributions in the areas of technology-oriented character design, storyline, music and techniques. It is hoped that this research will yield an insight into the significance of both artists’ contributions to the world of entertainment. en_US
