dc.description.abstract This project aims to understand and explain the impact of change in OSPFv3 routing protocol in terms of performance in network convergence through extensive research and simulation. Riverbed Modeler network simulation software was used to investigate the similarities and differences of OSPFv3 in IPv6 with the currents OSPFv2 in IPv4 network. Both of the routing protocol packet for OSPFv2 and OSPFv3 were studied involving characteristics such as convergence time and routing traffic sent within a propose network topologies. Using the simulation software simulation results for the specified routing protocols were compared with respect to the performance in order to determine the best routing protocol for a given network topology. The results and analysis found that the OSPFv2 has better performance in network convergence compared to the new OSPFv3. But despite of some limitation in term of performance for the network convergence, there are techniques to implement and optimize the OSPFv3 protocol so that it can perform better. Moreover, OSPFv3 have many excellent routing capabilities and will be widely deploy in future due to the migration from IPv4 to IPv6 network. en_US
