Determination and Validation of Material Removal Rate (Mrr) by Actual Machining in Turning Operation

Abstract

With the growth of manufacturing companies worldwide the utilization of machining processes become one of the most important operations. The wastes which are generated from the machining process usually are recycled or collected for disposal by a legal contractor. The Material Removal Rate (MRR) is a method used to calculate the waste generated for a particular machining operation. This data can be used to estimate the budget required to dispose the solid waste at the beginning of a business fiscal year. This research will focuses on the proximity of the theoretical MRR value with the physical value of waste generated during a machine operation. Hence the variance between the theoretical and practical value are homogenies for all the cutting operation. Three types of material have been chosen to the current research, there are mild steel, brass and aluminum. Turning operation will performed for a depth of cut 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm depth of cut for each material and the volume of waste generated will be recorded. A statistical analysis will be conducted to gauge the homogeneity of variance using the ANOVA. The statistical result shows that there is no evidence to reject the null hypothesis since all the data satisfy the assumption of ANOVA. The variances occur due to causes that been determined in fishbone diagram.
