dc.description.abstract This project present and focus on the ricehopper detection system. The title of this project is “Development of Ricehopper Detection System (RiDS) for Remote Implementation on Paddy Fields in Northwest Selangor Agriculture Development (PBLS) Area”. This project explained in details of analysis and design of ricehopper detection system using graphical user interface (GUI) in MATLAB. This work is to be performed with the cooperation from government agencies such as IADA Kuala Selangor and experts (entomologists) from UPM. The system will be developed mainly by first understanding requirements based on relevant literature reviews of recent works in countries affected by the brown ricehopper. The extant of the problem incurs millions of opportunity loss per year of paddy crops due to wastes of infested areas, a problem called ‘hopperburn’. As such, there exists an inherent issue of performing data collection and relaying early warning on ricehopper attacks in the paddy fields. The final aim of this project is to produce a remote, stand-alone ricehopper detection system which can convey warnings should the insect count breach the ETL levels. With this system, the production of paddy crop will increase in the future. Furthermore, the system itself will become the first Malaysian prototype on ricehopper monitoring proposed by local inventors. en_US
