dc.description.abstract Pressure ulcer is a critical problem to bedridden and wheelchair-bounded patients, diabetics, and the elderly people. Patients need to be regularly repositioned to prevent excessive pressure on a spotted area of body, which can lead to ulcers. Pressure ulcers are costly to treat and may lead to many other health problems, including death. The current standard prevention method is to reposition at-risk patents every two hours. This extended level of attention is becoming increasingly unrealistic for already overworked nursing staff. In this paper, we present a product design that uses data obtained from a survey on the hospital bed to design a repositioning device that minimizes caregiver interaction while still preventing pressure ulcer formation whether in hospital or at home. This report contains the activities and result on final year project semester January 2013. This report is divided into five categories which is Chapter 1: Introduction, Chapter 2: Literature review, Chapter 3: Methodology, Chapter 4: Project Implementation and lastly Chapter 5: Conclusions and Recommendations. The Multifunctional Bed for Bedsore Prevention design processes were recorded completely starting from planning to the very end of documentation. This project shows a record of the completion to answer the problem statements stated in Chapter 1. Multifunctional Bed for Bedsore Prevention functions to prevent development of bedsores by producing an assisting movement for pressure relieves. It fulfills the requirement to minimize the size of a bed by sliding some parts into storage. en_US
