Abstract:
In arc welding, an electrode is used to conduct a current to fuse the two pieces metals
together. Inappropriate selection of filler wire can gives effect to the metallurgical and
stability of the welded structure. In this research, we use electrode ER 4043 and ER5356 to
study the mechanical properties of the AA6061 Al alloy. Different types of filler wire give a
different condition on mechanical properties of metal especially when involved in high
temperature service. X-ray CT Scan was used to study the internal behaviour of oxidized
welded joint after exposed to high temperature environment. It was observed that the effect of
temperature accelerates the degradation behaviour in welded zone compared with base metal.
Protective behaviour was found to develop on parent metal side, while non-protective oxide
formed on fusion metal of the welded alloy showing a porous surface structure.
