Abstract:
This paper presents the possibility in reducing the heat gain by roof through proper insulation. In this
work, two identical chambers with the dimensions of 0.58 m x 0.65 m x 0.75 m made from wood were
built to mimic the conditions inside a house. Initially, transparent plastic was used as the chambers roof.
The principle of super insulation was adopted for the two and four layers configurations. Then, the effect
of roof color on the internal temperature was also studied. The roof was painted to red, similar to the color
of some roofs used in Malaysia. The experiments with similar configuration to the transparent roof were
repeated. Significant temperature reduction inside the camber with multiple layer insulations was
observed
